Review of The House on Mango Street: The Final Essay

Review of 'The House on Mango Street: The Final Essay''The House on Mango Street: The Final Essay' by Carrie Ann Kimball was an interesting and short read. I was always a bit weary of essays that went over the top and lectured me. But this did not happen in this book, but was instead a light-hearted and interesting read that I enjoyed immensely. I also really liked that the author included a glossary throughout the text, just for those who may not be as fluent in English as she is.I also appreciated that the essay was divided into three parts (which was a particular focus in the writing), and each part focused on a particular topic. It also included a glossary for those of us that were not so good at writing the essay, which I thought added to the humor. As the title says, the 'final essay' had everything there, which gave it a sense of depth and overall, more of a well-rounded look at life.In reading the essays, I could not help but think that, I really wish more people would come o ut with a more honest and brief but still insightful and thoughtful brief and summary of life and let the reader feel the full experience of living, while having a few laughs along the way. However, life goes through changes, even though we may be hard at work, sleeping, or doing other activities. I also noticed in this book, that the author did touch on different types of men and women, while exploring what it means to have a happy marriage and/or family.Despite the fact that they were written in a small town life, the experiences of these women had, and the relationship between them, were very similar to my own. They also all have their own personal experiences, and unique struggles. The final essay of the book dealt with the results of a study they did on African American women who had died before they got married. It also had a short section on funerals. The sections were funny and touching, and I really enjoyed reading it. The overall theme in the whole book was happiness and so rrow. This is one of the best books I have ever read on women, women of different races, ethnicities, religions, and even different women from the same race. It brings out the true self and our own passions and issues that we deal with on a daily basis. It brings out the self we already know and love.Although, I am a woman myself, I do not like to read about different types of women, unless they are women I know personally. I like to read about unique women that I never knew existed, and the author did a great job of creating this memoir, and I loved every second of it.'The House on Mango Street: The Final Essay' was a good read and a nice short read, with a lot of great material and concepts. This could be a good book for a class or just for yourself. I have to give a big thumbs up to this book.
